I don’t know exactly how Lisbon was celebrating All Saint’s Day prior to 1755, but it seems Papa had some thoughts on the subject.

I think that these kinds of things happen because they are as a result of a fallen world. Like the Tower of Siloam. Not that they had done something horrible to deserved it.

How tragic! What amazes me is how well historians have been able to keep and piece this tragedy together. Amazing. Scary.

Oh, it was a really big deal. And the Portuguese are proud of their history. Stuff like this happens regularly. Indonesia for example.

And here I thought it was just the d – – – Yankees who didn’t know much about other country’s woes. I know a little bit about most countries because I was a teacher and because I enjoy reading books about other country.
